Well – that’s it for 2008 and now for 2009
Well, that was the year that was, and to give you a brief idea of how I spent it, and my plans for 2009.
Work
2008
Another interesting year has gone by at work – the company I work for, being EDS Australia was acquired by HP for $13.9 billion. What this means for me is still unclear – but we’ve been told that 24,000 positions will be going world wide. In the last couple of months of 2008, we’ve had a total of 13 positions that have been moved off-shore from Australia to the Indian office, and the positions in Australia made redundant.
2009
The year to come shapes up to be an interesting year, as I train an Indian staff member to do my job. Management have told me that they have plans for me going forward – as they consider me a key resource with too much knowledge and experience to let go. Considering the current climate world-wide and locally with jobs and the financial sector – all I can do is wait and see.
Family
2008
Not a lot happened this year family wise – my brother spent about six months in Baghdad, Iraq with the Australian Defence Force – and spent a couple of weeks in Italy with his girlfriend. They went to Venice, where he proposed. He arrived back in Australia in October, and bought and moved into a new home in December. Now to really settle in, before he is moved to another part of Australia for his work with the ADF.
2009
Not much happening on the family front this year – just depends on when my brother and fiancé decide to have the wedding. So here’s hoping. Seeing I am now the only one bringing in an income – taking all my resources to pay the mortgage on our house. At least it is an investment for the future.
Friends
2008
Caught up again with Sam Butler, his brother and another friend. Always good to catch up with friends.
Pauline and Rodney Cooper had a baby daughter in May – her name is Bernadette. A wonderful little girl.
2009
At this stage – no news from friends as to what they are up-to, so we’ll see what happens.
